Chronicle of the WWNB
The Waterski Association of Lower Saxony (WVN), arguably the youngest offspring of our state sports association, was founded on November 14, 1992, within the venerable walls of the Kommende Lage in Rieste on Lake Alfsee in the Osnabrück district. The water skiers received their registered association (registered association) shortly after its founding on March 22, 1993. However, the association had to wait more than five years for admission to the Lower Saxony State Sports Association (Landessportbund Niedersachsen eV). On April 25, 1998, the time finally came. A small but distinguished fringe sport became a member of the LSB Lower Saxony.
The association is still small, but thanks to the increasing prevalence of water ski cable cars in Germany, it's almost no longer a fringe sport. The WVN's main tasks were to establish the association's structure and integrate the various disciplines (boat, cable car, wakeboard). Both of these have been largely successful. The WVN has clubs in the districts of Cuxhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Celle, Emsland, Grafschaft Bentheim, Osnabrück, and Göttingen, as well as in the cities of Hanover and Osnabrück. Through cross-disciplinary competitions and meetings, the association has contributed to breaking down barriers of contact within the individual clubs and fostering friendly relationships.
For the near future, the association plans to hold joint boat races in neighboring Petershagen, establish a state training center, and hold a cable car world championship. Particular interest is shown in young athletes in the latest trend sport, wakeboarding (snowboarding on water). Increased membership recruitment is planned for 1999. Wakeboarding offers the association and clubs great opportunities for the new century.
